Discover the legend of King Arthur

Tintagel Castle is the renowned birthplace of King Arthur.

Our trips here engage students with Arthurian legend and the knights of the Round Table.

As well as exploring the castle ruins and its dramatic landscape we also visit King Arthur’s Great Halls.

The dramatic and evocative location of Tintagel has been of strategic importance for over 1500 years.

Most notably, it is recorded as the birthplace of King Arthur, the legendary medieval ruler of Britain.

Visiting King Arthur's Great Halls

We start our day at King Arthur’s Great Halls. Founded almost 100 years ago, the Great Halls introduce students to the legends of King Arthur (through a presentation delivered by Merlin himself!).

We then explore the Halls and its artefacts, including one of the largest collections of stained-glass windows depicting Arthurian legend (there are 73 in total).

We give every student a fun worksheet to fill in. Here they’ll draw their favourite knight’s crest and reflect on what they’ve seen so far.
