Student group at Lanhydrock House

Lanhydrock House

An afternoon at Lanhydrock has so much to offer: its fantastically restored country house dates back to the 1620s, the ancient woodland beside it and stunning gardens with an incredible array of plantlife.

Our Lanhydrock highlights include:

  • Showing students the fully-equipped kitchens
  • Learning about life at Lanhydrock from costumed servants
  • Strolling around the gardens and extensive grounds
  • Grabbing a cup of coffee or cream tea from the lovely cafe!

The history of Lanhydrock

Lanhydrock House dates back to the 1620s and has a dramatic history with many similarities to TV’s Downton Abbey.

To make the most of our time here, Language Tree’s teachers and activity leaders will share Lanhydrock’s fascinating history through our lessons leading up to the trip and on our tours of the grounds.

As we show students around the house and its grounds, we’re never short on stories to share…

A gem of the National Trust

As Education Pass holders, the National Trust sites in Cornwall are some of our favourite to explore during summer school.

One of the best things about a trip to Lanhydrock is talking with the National Trust staff. They are usually volunteers with a wealth of knowledge about the places where they volunteer. They love the opportunity to share stories about the history of the amazing properties where they work.

At Lanhydrock, there are fascinating and tragic stories that chart the history of this important house and the families who lived in it. Learning doesn’t get more interactive!

Exploring Lanhydrock house

Seeing the fully-equipped kitchens is always a highlight of the day but recent renovations have doubled the size of our tours around the house!

Another favourite amongst our Junior Summer School students is the children’s wing. Here students can dress up in costumes, play board games in the playroom or even practise their ballroom dance moves.

Students can also see the billiards room, dining hall and magnificent Long Gallery.

Unforgettable gardens

Lanhydrock’s gardens are famous for their magnolias, flowerbeds and charming features like the gardener’s thatched-roof cottage and the historic church and its memorials to the family.

While time outdoors is fun for all ages, exploring quintessential English gardens is often especially popular with students on our Adult Language Experience courses.
