The story of Language Tree

The story of Language Tree starts in 2000 when I took a gap year job as an English language teacher in Caruaru, Brazil. The experience sparked a love of travel and meeting people from different cultures around the world. Over the years, the seeds of Language Tree were sown and in 2017 we opened our first school in Truro. Since 2024, we have been based on the Penryn Campus where we offer our special summer school experiences during July and August each year. Learn more about our story and our ethos.

Language Tree is lucky to have its home on the superb Penryn University Campus. It's a modern, green and safe university campus in the heart of Cornwall - just 5 minutes from the cool town of Falmouth with its gorgeous beaches and historic harbour town. Cornwall is home to some brilliant local traditions. As Christmas approaches, we want to share some insight into one of Cornwall's most festive celebrations: Tom Bawcock's Eve. This festival takes place every year on 23 December in Mousehole and visitors celebrate by eating the local delicacy of Stargazy Pie. It is a Christmas celebration like no other!

How to apply for your ETA (plus information for getting to Cornwall)

If you are planning to travel to the UK, you will need to get an ETA (electronic travel authorisation) before you travel. It is easy to apply for this document on the UK government website. Once you have your ETA it is valid to visit the UK as many times as you like for two years! Check out our handy guide on how to apply for your ETA. Coast Walking: From Sennen to Land’s End

Our circular walk from Sennen around Land's End and back again is one of top coast walks each summer. On a good day, you can see out across the ocean as far as the Isles of Scilly. From the signpost at Land's End, you will also see how far it is to New York, Rio de Janeiro and the North Pole. After visiting this most westerly point of the UK, we finish the day watching a show at the Minack Theatre!

Coast Walking: From Lizard Point to Kynance Cove

Our coast walk from Lizard Point to Kynance Cove offers some of the most incredible views of Cornwall's coastline. The Lizard is the southernmost point of the UK mainland and has natural beauty that won't find anywhere else in the country. Students love this walk for its amazing scenery, fascinating history and the chance for a dip in the sea at Kynance Cove at the end!

This stretch of coast is a stunning example of everything the north coast of Cornwall has to offer. Join our British Council accredited International Junior Summer School for teenagers in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions.
