Visit the Eden Project in Cornwall

The Eden Project is not just a famous attraction in Cornwall, but one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the UK.

It has drawn in millions of visitors from all over the world since it opened in 2001.

The groundbreaking biomes, built in a disused china clay pit, are an incredible feat of engineering (and were inspired by soap bubbles!)

Why Eden is special to us

Eden holds a special place in our heart. It represents so many values Language Tree holds dear: environmental awareness, regeneration, education and fun. An excursion to the Eden Project offers the chance to learn about nature by diving into it.

What does an afternoon at Eden look like?

Our team love sharing the magic of Eden with students of all ages. Here’s what you can expect during our Eden excursions:

Discover the Invisible Worlds exhibition

Starting off at the Core, with its Invisible Worlds exhibition, students are invited to reflect on the importance of the tiniest lifeforms that form the basis of the natural world.

The huge smoke ring blowing ceramic sculpture reaches the roof of the Core.

Then we head towards the biomes through the outdoor gardens, which are full of vibrant flowers and sculptures.

Visit the Mediterranean

As soon as you enter the Mediterranean Biome, the smells of herbs and a wave of heat hits you. Here students can experience the natural habitats from the Mediterranean, California, South Africa and Western Australia.

Explore a rainforest

Stepping into the Rainforest Biome is like entering a different world. It’s hot, humid and full of colour.

As we stroll around, students can point out the different tropical fruits growing all around. Sometimes we spot geckos or brightly coloured roul-roul birds amongst the greenery.

We walk higher and higher, into the rainforest’s canopy. There are man-made clouds, waterfalls and a rope bridge along the way.

Try out the UK’s fastest zipwire!

For students seeking adventure, a trip to Eden is also an opportunity to try out the UK’s fastest zipwire right over the biomes!

Hangloose’s zipwire reaches speeds of 96km per hour and is over half a kilometre long. You strap into the harness horizontally and head first (Superman-style!), giving you the most incredible views of Eden during the ride.

Promoting sustainability

At Language Tree, we believe in bringing learning about the environment to life – we want to promote environmental awareness through real things we can do outside the classroom with our students.

As well as our immersive trips to the Eden Project, another key excursion with out students is to do a beach clean with Beach Guardian.

Our lessons lead into these trips as well: giving students key knowledge on the unique biodiversity of Cornwall, its particular environmental challenges and the amazing work happening to protect the nature here.

The creation of the Eden Project

The creation of the Eden Project is a wonderful story or regeneration of a derelict landscape.

For many years, the old quarry pit where the Eden Project was built was considered a blot on the landscape. An example of environmental destruction caused by mining for precious minerals.

Now it holds the biggest indoor tropical rainforest in the world and helps to inspire millions of people to take more care of our biodiversity.
